5.1 Major Findings of the Study
Motivation is to satisfy the desire and achieve the purpose of an internal spontaneous and continuous force that maintains a positive attitude and effort in practical action. Motivation is a very effective factor in the process of learning, which can greatly promote the occurrence of learning activities and play a 'catalyst' role (Chen 2017). First of all, from the results of the questionnaire, it is concluded that the English learning motivation of senior high school students in Gansu Hui Autonomous Region is in medium level. Their main motivation is external motivation, followed by internal motivation. Based on the SDT, the main motivation type of Hui senior high school students is integrated, identified, and external regulation and intrinsic knowledge. Their secondary motivational types are intrinsic accomplishment and introjected regulation.
Based on the interviews, the results concluded the affecting factors of senior high school students' English learning motivation in Gansu Hui Autonomous Region. The most important affecting factor is the English teacher, so they should improve the teaching method, adjust the classroom atmosphere, and create more opportunities for students to communicate in English. Besides, other factors that affect students' motivation for English learning are family environment, students' purpose and personal interest in learning English. Minority English education is a systematic and long-term project, so learning motivation is essential in the English learning process of Hui senior high school students.
