There are some differences in the use of various lexical cohesive devices in differentgenres of compositions by high and low level students.The specific situations in differentgenres are as follows:

According to the data,we can see that 60 students used 1062 lexical cohesion in theprocess of argumentative writing,there was a significant difference in the number of lexicalcohesive devices used by the high and low level groups,with 624 in the high level group and438 in the low level group,with the highest number of lexical cohesive devices used beingcollocations at 40.6%.However,there are some differences between high and low levelgroups.The frequency of the high level group is 41.3%,which is also the most frequentcohesive devices used by high level group in argumentative essays,while the frequency oflow level group is 39.5%.





Chapter 6 Conclusion

6.1 Research Findings

This study conducted an educational survey for nearly five months to explore the use oflexical cohesive devices in students’English writing and its correlation with compositionquality.It is guided by the discourse cohesion theory and combined with the teachingpractice of English writing in this context.The relevant data was collected and tested byusing one questionnaire,two essay tests,one interview,text analysis,and other researchtechniques,and the following conclusions were drawn.
