Alice Munro,a well-known Canadian short story writer,was named one of the“100Most Influential People in the World”by Time magazine and won the Nobel Prize forLiterature in 2013.Alice Munro began writing as a teenager and published 14 collections ofshort stories.In 1968,her first collection of short stories-Dance of the Happy Shadows(1968),which received much attention,was published and won the Governor General’s Awardthat year,gradually establishing Munro’s position in Canadian literature.After that,Munro’scareer in writing entered a mature stage,and his artistic level became more refined.The NobelPrize was awarded for the“master of the contemporary short story”.

In 1931,Alice Munro was born into a poor family in Canada.Her father,Robert Redlaw,was a smallholder farmer,and her mother,Anna Charney,was a rural elementary schoolteacher.Alice Munro’s childhood was spent in Wingham,Ontario,Canada.After graduatingfrom high school,she attended the University of Western Ontario.At the age of 20,she fell inlove with James Munro,then she dropped out of school because of her marriage and moved toBritish Columbia.She later moved to Victoria,where she opened a small bookstore.In 1972,the couple divorced,and Munro returned to Ontario as a resident writer at the University ofWestern Ontario.In 1976,Munro remarried Gerald Frimling,her college classmate,and thenthey moved to a farm outside of Clinton,Ontario,and later moved from the farm to ClintonTownship,where they have since settled.
