Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Background of the Text
The original text of this report Mangroves for Building Resilience to Climate Change was written by R. N. Mandal and R. Bar, and published by Apple Academic Press in 2019.
Mangroves cover a substantial portion of the Indian subcontinent since the continent is located in the tropics. Not only are extensive coastal regions covered with mangrove ecosystems, but the Sundarban, the world’s biggest block of mangrove forest, is also located in the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna estuary. This unique forest is not easily accessible to outsiders due to the existence of the Royal Bengal tiger, yet fishermen, woodcutters, and villagers have ventured deep into the forest with great risk.
According to the authors’ experience, many people are interested in mangroves. They want to know why mangroves could survive in such a harsh environment. Additionally, teachers and locals and others also require a book for reference when working in the field. Hence, a book on mangroves that will serve to elucidate the general public and scientists is badly need. Therefore, the authors have made great efforts to compile detailed contents about mangroves, and attached many pictures for reference.
1.2 Significance of the Project
Ecology is the most basic condition for human existence and the most important foundation for China’s sustainable development. As socialism with Chinese characteristics has crossed the threshold of a new era, protecting the natural and ecological environment needs to get a higher priority from us, especially the mangrove forest, which is called “coast guard”. This translation practice is the first time to translate the book Mangroves for Building Resilience to Climate Change into Chinese. Through this translation practice, the translator tries to learn more about mangrove plants and mangrove ecosystems, and at the same time provides a Chinese version faithful to the source text for reference by other translators or domestic researchers in plant protection and mangrove ecology. Mangroves thrive on the tropical and subtropical coastlines of every continent. Here, they will not only be exposed to the scouring of seawater every day, but also endure extreme temperature conditions and periodic tropical storms. Despite these harsh conditions, there are still large areas of mangroves growing tenaciously, demonstrating the power of these plants. Unfortunately, mangroves all over the world are facing various threats.
In recent years, our country has attached great importance to mangrove protection and ecological restoration, and implemented state key ecological projects, such as the Blue Bay Initiative. Master Plan for Major Projects of National Important Ecosystem Protection and Restoration (2021-2035), proposed the plan of mangrove forestation and restoration. The theme of World Ocean Day and National Ocean Publicity Day on June 8, 2020 is “Protecting Mangroves and Marine Ecology”. According to translator’s survey, there are few books on systematic study of mangroves in the form of field manual and illustrations in China at present. Therefore, ensuring the development of mangrove ecosystem is related to human well-being, and it is of self-evident sig本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
