Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 Background of the study
Language transfer has been an important phenomenon in second languageacquisition, applied linguistics and language teaching. In the past twenty years, however, its importance in the second language learning has been on the trend of increasing. In the1950s, it was often considered the most important factor to consider in a series of secondlanguage teaching as well as the second language learning approaches. In the 60s of thelast century, its importance was also the evidence for the learner's errors as no evidenceof language transfer but 'the process of building innovation'. Some researchers almostcompletely repudiated their interpretation of the passion of language transfer. A morereasonable opinion has emerged in recent years, in which the role of language transfer isrecognized, and in which transfer is considered to be not fully understood with the host'sother factors. (Odlin, 1989: 24-46.)However, with the developing of world economy, the language contact between theregion and the nation is becoming more and more frequent. More countries and regionshave begun to recognize the language of minorities. All these changes have laid a goodfoundation for the study of third language acquisition (TLA). Nowadays more and morepeople are pursuing the research of language transfer in third language acquisition. This

Internationally, the most advancedscientific research results are also published in English. English is the most effective toolfor us to understand and master the world. With the formation of the global economicintegration, as well as the in-depth development of the western region, Xinjiang hasaccelerated the pace of opening to the outside world; the demand of foreign-relatedtranslation is increasing.

Chapter 2 Literature Review
2.1 Relevant Concepts
In the terminology of second language research, the term transfer is as problematicas any. Researchers tried to give definitions to transfer from different views.
