本文是一篇高中英语论文,本研究主要探讨广西高中英语教学中教师对培养学生批判性思维能力的认知现状。根据上一章的分析,主要结论如下。从教师对批判性思维概念认知的总体现状来看,大多数高中英语教师对批判性思维有一定的理解。但它并不具体和系统。


Chapter1 Introduction


1.1 Research Background

In the information explosion age, every person can be an information producerand disseminator. So individuals who lack critical thinking abilities are easilyoverwhelmed by a great deal of information regardless of whether it is true or not(Ozden, 2005). To avoid the above phenomenon, it is necessary to cultivate students’critical thinking ability. In recent years, the cultivation of critical thinking ability hasbecome an important goal of language teaching at home and abroad. UNESCO’sreport Education 2030: Incheon Declaration and Framework for Action proposed thatthe improvement of students’ critical thinking ability should be ensured in futureeducation (2016). In 2001, the Council of Europe proposed that language learningshould emphasize the importance of higher-order thinking skills in the “CommonEuropean Framework of Reference for Languages.” As is known to all, criticalthinking ability is one of the important embodiments of higher-order thinking skills.Therefore, it can be seen that the cultivation of students’ critical thinking abilities isemphasized in foreign countries.

Critical thinking is not only valued abroad, but also emphasized in China. Inrecent years, more and more scholars focus on the research of critical thinking abilityin senior high school English teaching. That is because “General Senior High SchoolEnglish Curriculum Standards (2017)” proposed that thinking quality, which includesthe critical thinking aspect, is one of core English competences. The cultivation ofstudents’ critical thinking ability is helpful to improve their abilities to analyze andsolve problems, as well as developing their curiosity and self-confidence which play acritical part in one’s growth.


1.2 Purpose and Significance of the Research

The purpose of this research is to explore the present situation about teachers’cognition of cultivating students’ critical thinking abilities in Senior high schoolEnglish teaching in Guangxi. In this part, this research demonstrates its researchsignificance from theoretical and practical aspects.

Concern the perspective of theoretical significance, the study of criticalthinking skills in English teaching attracts scholars’ growing attention. Nowadays,relevant studies mainly focus on critical thinking concepts, critical thinking skills test,critical thinking disposition inventory, and the cultivating ways. Few of them havecombined critical thinking competence with teacher cognition. Also, they have rarelybeen conducted in minority autonomous regions. However, It is an important part ofEnglish education which is consistent with the requirements of the new curriculumstandards. So this research shifts the focus to teachers’ cognition in a minorityautonomous region-Guangxi. Through investigating teachers’ understanding ofcritical thinking concepts, their attitudes of critical thinking cultivation, and thecultivating ways, the research reveals the specific situation of teachers’ cognition ofcultivating students’ critical thinking competence in senior high school English teaching in Guangxi.
