1.2 Significance of the Study研究意义
Appropriate use of teacher feedback will create many functions such as follows:encouraging students’ performance, evaluating the students’ response, enriching thecontent of the ongoing communication, and even promoting greater learners’involvement. In addition, the words and languages the teacher selects are key tostudents’ self-esteem, academic success as well as their mental and emotional health.So teacher feedback is closely related to students’ learning.On the other side, teacher’s politeness behavior can be beneficial for building aharmonious relationship between teachers and students. Besides, understanding aboutthe potential face-threaten behaviors in class and adopting correct face-savingstrategies is meaningful in stimulating the students’ learning interest.What is more, it can also serve as a good guidance in our daily communication.It tells us how to get along well with others.To sum up, it is of great importance to study English teaching from theperspective of face and politeness theory.
