ve syntactic patterns and the native expressions of English,Chinese L2ers are required to abandon the restrictive learning principle, i.e. the sublearning principle in learning English and arrive at the native like norm of English. Thehypothesis to be investigated in this article is; adult L2 learners are guided by the SubPrinciple. The hypothesis predicts that learners should acquire the L2 properties on thebasis of the Sub Principle interacting with positive evidence  the L2. Chinese L2learners of English should assume that Chinese is as the sub, which permits theappearance of space and time adjuncts in the initial and mediate position, while Englishis as a super, which not only the initial position but also the mediate and end positionof space and time adjuncts. The hypothesis proposed in this thesis is that aninterlanguage hypothesis with independent grammar is adopted,merging bothreasonable parts of the Sub Principle and transfer hypotheses to interpret that all theL2ers of English firstly compute the markedness of the input grammar in theirinterlanguage system and then choose the sub elements or syntactic parameters toavoid the negative evidence but reinforce their fossilization in language learning.The hypotheses raised in the thesis are:HYPOTHESIS 1: Chinese L2ers arrange the position sequence of English spaceand time adjuncts with the transfer trace  Chinese syntactic construction.HYPOTHESIS 2: The application of sub learning principle results in thepreference of space and time adjuncts in the beginning part of the English sentence.HYPOTHESIS 3: The explicit instruction betters the realization of consciously andintentionally mapping the form-meaning of English space and time adjuncts.

 

1.3 Research Significance研究意义
The significance of the present research on English adjuncts resides in enablingChinese L2ers of English to be explicitly aware of not only how to appropriately usespace and time in English, but also how to understand the learning principle of sub soas to enhance their learning ability of English. After the research experiment, the authorargues that the L2 beginners much more obey and follow the Sub Principle to choohe narrow and restrictive grammar in the sub rather than picking up the marked andwide expressions in the super, such as the end position of English space and timeadjuncts. The results also correlate with the conclusion that the second languageacquisition is a course which is close to the target language successively.The paper has arrived at the conclusion that Sub Principle does operate in L2acquisition. Sub Principle contains two important possibilities that will be addressed:the sub hypothesis, which states that all language learners prefer to apply the SubPrinciple to the L2,in other words, the learners will intuitively choose the mostrestrictive and conservative domain. The study shows that the learners observe SubPrinciple and are inclined to choose the initial position immediately. What is more, theSub Principle in L2ers' interlanguage system recomputed the three availablepositions for the English space and time adjuncts, and the ranking order is that the coreand sub one is the initial position, and then the less marked one, i.e. the mediateposition, and last the most marked one, i.e. the end position. And at the same time theSub Principle always instructs learners to obey the rule of choosing the most core andunmarked expressions.
