1.1 Background of This Research研究背景
助剂的研究很少吸引SLA学者的关注和兴趣,归因于以下原因:一个原因是,辅助系统,通常采取的是理所当然的类似传统的语法学习中的问题;The study of adjuncts rarely attracts SLA scholars' attention and interest,attributing to the following reasons: one reason is that the adjuncts are usually taken forgranted as issues in the category of traditional grammar learning; the second one is thatthe grammatical function of adjuncts as well as subjuncts, disjuncts, conjuncts, etc. iswithin the domain of functional grammar; the third one is that in typology, Englishbelongs to the subject-prominence language rather than the topic-prominence that,however, characterizes the Chinese language, https://www.51lunwen.org/languagethesis/ which leads to the fact that adjuncts as anadditional syntactic part do not arouse the main focus as much as that given to thesubject and predicate part in a sentence.Space and time adjuncts are found to be the major problem in the English writingfor advanced Chinese students. The significance of the research on English adjunctsresides in enabling Chinese L2ers to be explicitly aware of not only how toappropriately use space and time in English, but also how to understand and avoid theSub Principle in learning a second language so as to enhance their learning rate ofEnglish.

 

1.2 Research Questions and Hypothesis研究问题与假设
刚开始研究的是讨论这些问题,为什么中国L2ers英语很少注意到它的意义,实现英语的辅助。The beginning of the research is to discuss those problems as why Chinese L2ersof English rarely notice the meaning when realizing English adjuncts. The phenomenonis that L2ers incidentally or unconsciously transfer the syntactical patterns and featuresof Chinese language and at the same time never make any violation in English syntacticconstruction. The following questions will be treated in the paper:1) Are Chinese L2ers aware that space and time adjuncts are characterized withmore possible positions to be placed in an English sentence compared to1Chinese?2) Does the Sub Principle co-effect and interact with the universal grammarprinciples and parameters in the L2 learning procedure the same way as it doesin the LI acquisition?3) If the Sub Principle does exist, what effect will the Sub Principle exert onthe interlanguage and LI transfer when Chinese L2ers of English are acquiringthe space and time adjuncts?4) Does the explicit instruction facilitate and smooth the Chinese L2ers,srealization of the principle consciously and intentionally to break the SubPrinciple constraint?The main originality of this thesis resides in studying and researching the ChineseL2ers' acquisition of English space and time adjuncts in a new aspect by utilizing thetheory of X-bar, theta theory, and theme and rheme  functional grammar. Thetheoretical basis in this thesis involves the study of theme-rheme,subject/topic-prominent, language transfer, the positive and negative evidence leamability, the X-bar theory and theta theory in transformational grammar proposed byChomsky, and the learning principle of sub and super relationship.The hypotheses and findings in the thesis indicate that Chinese L2ers'interlanguage is not only filled with errors that simply deviates  English, but alsocontains the correct forms that are the minimal s of target language.
