5.1 Transitivity Resources of the Chinese Government Image in News Reports on China’s Poverty Alleviation

Government image is the sum of impressions formed by the public’s comprehensive perception of the government. It is a subjective and comprehensive impression produced by the concrete actions of government buildings, leaders, public officials, policies, and daily governance behaviors that act on the public’s mind (Liao, 2001). As the decision maker and leader of the poverty alleviation, the Chinese government takes poverty alleviation as a national action and carries out top-level design thoroughly.

5.1.1 Keywords and Transitivity Resources about Chinese Government Image

In corpus study, the key linguistic characteristics of news items can be more intuitively understood through the statistical analysis and examination of keywords. In this study, the corpus was processed and analyzed with AntConc 3.5.9. The keywords involving the image of the government were filtered, and then manual tagging was performed. All inflectional forms of a keyword were tagged as one item, such as the form of the province containing provinces. Finally, the government image in the corpus was tagged, classified, and statistically analyzed.
