Chapter One Introduction


1.1 Background of the Study
在我国,传统的英语教学的情况下,大多数第二语言学习者学习第二语言。在这个过程中第二语言学习者学习英语上花太多的时间,通常超过十年年通过小学至大学。形式是有限的,多采用外语课堂教学。大多数第二语言学习者的动机是功能性的。学习者可能使努力学习英语的一些语言的原因,要通过考试,以获得更好的工作,或在大学中获得一席之地。他们只是雇用处理与考试学习策略,而不是在英语实际使用。的现象已经出现在我的朋友。实现的功能目标后,他们停止学习英语,但其中大部分都不满意自己的英语水平,尤其是他们的听力和口语能力。他们没有足够的沟通能力与目标语言的用户,即使经过十余年的研究。观察到这一点,这篇论文是找出这种现象的根本原因,通过分析第二语言学习者的学习经验,并探讨第二语言学习使用语言学习策略带来的影响。
In our country, most second language learners study second language undertraditional English teaching circumstance. In this process second language learnersspend much time on English learning, usually more than a decade year throughprimary school to university. The forms are limited, and many adopt classroomteaching. The motivations of most second language learners are functional. Learnersmay make efforts to learn English for some ftinctional reason—to pass an examination,to get a better job, or to get a place at university. They just employed the learningstrategies on dealing with the examination, not on the English actual using. Aphenomenon has emerged around my friends. After achieved the functional goal, theystop learning English, but most of them are not satisfied with their English proficiency,especially their listening and speaking ability. They don't have enough ability tocommunicate with target language users even after more than ten years study.Observing this, this thesis is to find out the root cause of this phenomenon byanalyzing study experience of second language learners, and to explore the impact tosecond language learning brought by using of language learning strategies.


1.2 Significance and Purpose of the Study
As a matter of fact, since the 1980s the research of the language learning strategies was developing faster, concentrating on the process of the language learning,the cognitive process and information process of the language learning. In the 1990sthere was a new trend in the language learning. The research of language learning wasassociated with the automatic learning. The central point was on the training of thelanguage learning strategy. Thus there is a change from the teacher center to thestudent center, with teachers getting a sufficient understanding to students' learningprocess. While most research focus on learning strategies used by good/successfullanguage learners or what learning strategies would be used in students' differentlearning stages. My research focus on what aspects have the great effect on using oflearning strategies and language learning efficiency.
It is obvious that English is of great importance as a world language. Take Chinafor example; with the policy of reformation and opening, more and more people havethe opportunity to get exposed to a second language. Consequently, great importanceis being attached to this field. However, under the circumstance of traditional Englishteaching environment, our language learners' English proficiency are relatively low,and they don't have enough ability to communicate with target language users evenafter more than ten years study. Most of the learners believe their English learning arenot successful, nor do they have enough confidence in English learning. Despite greateffort have been made by our English teacher and learner, the study achievement arenot satisfied.
