2.1.1 Preparation for Terminology

Since the type of context is natural science,the stage of term preparation isespecially vital.The author made the following efforts to build and improve the termlist.

First,this series of open courses have a sub-chapter to take care of learners whodo not know the background knowledge,which is Background Concepts andTerminology Used in this Course.The author found some professional terms from it,such as air pressure unit,and millibar.Second,the author downloaded two electronicbooks,one of them is TEOFL IBT Vocabulary,which has a category of meteorologyvocabularies.The other is The Cloud Collector’s Handbook,which listed almost allkinds of clouds in the sky.The two books have given great support to the author’spreparation work.Finally,the author searched the official website of the WorldMeteorological Organization to learn specific expressions.It was very useful.

2.2 Interpreting Process

This practice is carried out in the form of simulated consecutive interpreting.Due to the epidemic,the school of the author was closed,so this interpretation wasfinished in the student dormitory.The interpreter arranged the desk one hour beforethe beginning,and checked and adjusted the electronic equipment,including theinterpreter's recording equipment,and a laptop as a playback device.In addition,theinterpreter invited two roommates and four classmates,three of whom served aslisteners and were asked to evaluate the interpreter's translated language andperformance;one served as an assistant to play the screen recording materials for theinterpreter.

“The whole process of interpreting can be divided into four phases:acceptanceof the task,preparation before interpreting,interpreting,summary andself-assessment after interpreting.”(Lin Chaolun,2004:35).The duration of thematerial is about 48 minutes,and was divided into 2 parts,with a 15 minutes breakin the middle of them.

At the beginning,the assistant pressed the pause bottom at an interval of around30 to 50 seconds according to the speaker's tone,and the interpreter performsconsecutive interpretations.The assistant will record the interpreting content.Duringthe interpretation,the interpreter could see the screen on which the speaker playedPPT and videos.The speaker's thinking jumps greatly,and examples are frequentlyused in the speech.The interpreter kept high tension at the beginning,taking notesand receiving new information simultaneously.
