Abstract Idioms are the essence of language and carry abundant culture information. Translation, especially idioms translation, is not easy work because we have to deal with a lot of culture sense besides making the linguistic transference. This paper, from the perspective of English and Chinese culture, aims at exploring how the culture sense influences the practice of English idiom translation. However, cultural elements are often barriers to translators. As Zhang Peiji said, whether idioms are well translated or not will directly affect the quality of the whole Chinese version.(张培基,习语汉译英研究[M]. 北京: 商务印书馆,1964,p6)Therefore, i t is very necessary for us to know the importance of culture sense in the process of English idioms translation. The idioms mentioned here include metaphorical phrases, slang, colloquialism, proverbs and so on. In the following five chapters, the writer will offer a discussion of the influence of culture sense on the translation of English idioms. 1. Remarks on culture sense 1.1 Definition of culture sense In a broad sense, culture means “the total way of life of a people, including the patterns of belief, customs, objects, institutions, techniques, and language that characterizes the life of the human community.”(戴炜栋,何兆熊，新编简明英语教程[M]. 上海: 上海外语教育出版社,2002，p127)Idioms are always connected with some aspect of culture such as people’s belief, customs.
