Tuteng is a product of this kind of study and thus the research on it willbe of great importance for Chinese literature entering the world.Besides, many scholars focus on the research of the Chinese version of Lang Tuteng,while a few of them study Wolf Totem although the English version has been published fornearly 3 years. And among the little research on Wolf totem, almost all of them areconcerned with the micro-perspectives of the version such as the translation ofculture-loaded words, and concentrated on the internal text rather than aspects beyond thetext, such as the structure of the two versions and the reasons behind the changes in themain structure. Therefore, research on the two versions from macro-aspects is of greatsignificance.
　　
　　1.2 The Research Methodology of the Study
　　The present thesis will adopt three basic approaches to demonstrate the viewpoints ofthe author. Descriptive method is used to introduce Hu Gengshen's ecological theory ofTranslation: TAS and the previous studies on the theory. Besides, contrast and comparisonare adopted for two reasons: on the one hand, to describe the similarities and differencesbetween Lang Tuteng and Wolf Totem in various aspects, such as the structures andlanguage features, all of which can provide convincing facts for the research of the thesis;on the other hand, to compare Hu，s theory with other relevant translation studies, andconclude that eco-translatology can provide a new and more comprehensive perspectivefor the research of Goldblatt's Wolf Totem. After description and comparison, the thesiswill do research on the translated version: Wolf Totem in the framework of theeco-translatology. According to the theory, the process of translation can be divided intotwo parts, (1) the translator must be selected by the translational eco-environment (it canbe also said that the translator tries to adapt to the translational eco-environment); (2) thetranslator, once selected, will make selections of the final translation. The present thesiswill first analyze how the translator, Goldblatt, adapts to the translational eco-environment,and then describing Goldblatt's selection of the strategies or techniques in his translatingprocess from three dimensions: linguistic, cultural and communicative dimension. At last.Professor Hu's evaluation criterion in his theory will be used to evaluate whetherGoldblatt has well adapted to the translational eco-environment in translating Wolf Totem.With the analysis, the thesis aims to reach two conclusions: first, the translation istranslator-centered and the success of Goldblatt's translation of Lang Tuteng can beascribed to his holistic adaptation and selection from various aspects in the translationaleco-environment; secondly, domestication and foreignization is not absolute, in otherwords, they can be adopted at the same time in different dimensions and under differentconditions.
　　
　　1.3 The Structure of the Thesis
　　The thesis comprises five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction whichconcentrates on the significance, the research methods, and the structure of the study. Thesecond chapter is literature review which can be divided into two parts. In the first part,the development of translation studies is briefly reviewed to make Hu Gengshen'seco-translatology stand out. The second part is to describe the present research conditionof the thesis.
