MoYan has said with undisguised admiration: “If you like, you can skip my other novels (Iwouldn't recommend it), but you must read Big Breasts and Wide Hips. In it I wrotehistory, war，politics, hunger, religion, love, and sex.” This novel has been translatedinto several languages and gained popularity both at home and abroad. In a speechgiven when the Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to him in 2012, Mo Yan said thattranslated versions gave the original texts new lives and owed translators a lot for theircontributions made to spreading his works and Chinese literature. Since the translatorplays a significant role in exporting literary works, it is urgent for us to study thesubjectivity manifested by the translator in translating the original text so as to providesome suggestions for the future translators. This research will take Big Breasts andWide Hips as a case study and the theoretical framework is the translator's subjectivity.The aspects where the translator's subjectivity is manifested and the motivations behindthese aspects will be explored.
