摘要:随着全球化的到来,不同文化背景的人们有更多的机会可以进行彼此交流。自从加入世界贸易组织,中国国际贸易活动越来越频繁。在这种趋势的推动下,商务英语在国际市场上扮演着越来越重要的较色。显然,熟练掌握商务英语及其翻译会促进跨文化之间的交流,增强中外双方在贸易过程中的彼此理解。良好的商务英语翻译可以给跨国公司留下良好的印象,进而促进中国贸易的发展。与此相反,缺乏专业的商务和商务翻译知识会给企业带来无法估量的损失。因此对商务英语翻译进行研究具有重要的意义。目前,已经有很多学者在此领域做出了卓越的贡献他们给我们提供了很多有价值的翻译策略。本文在借鉴了许多优秀作者和学者的研究作品后,为大家介绍商务英语翻译三个主要的方面。即商务英语中模糊语言的翻译,商务英语信函的翻译以及商务英语合同的翻译。

choose proper words to represent the consideration and courtesy of original texts in target texts. The politeness principle is widely used in business English letters and its translation. Geoff Leech has proposed the politeness principle as a way to explain how politeness operates in business exchanges. Leech’s maxims are:


Tact maxim (in directives impositives and commissives):


1) minimize cost to other;


2) maximize benefit to other;


Generosity maxim (in directives and commissives):


1) minimize benefit to self


2) maximize cost to self;


Approbation maxim (in expressives and representatives):


1) minimize dispraise of other;


2) maximize praise of other


Modesty maxim (in expressives and representatives):


1) minimize praise of self;


2) maximize dispraise of self


Agreement maxim (in representatives):


1) minimize disagreement between self and other;


2) maximize agreement between self and other;


Sympathy maxim (in representatives):


1) minimize antipathy between self and other;


2) maximize sympathy between self and other;


This is Leech’s principle of politeness. For polite correspondence shows respect and concern for others and thus will help to facilitate business transaction, therefore politeness principle plays a key role in Business English letters. Following I will introduce some tips to better employ politeness principle when doing translation of Business English correspondence.


4.2.3.1 Self-denigration and Others-respecting Maxim


This strategy stems from Gu Yueguo’s politeness principle. Professor Gu Yueguo is one of the Chinese scholars who have made great contributions to the study of politeness in Chinese culture. The Self-denigration and Others-respecting Maxim is on the basis of the notions of respectfulness and modesty, and it is the unique feature of Chinese politeness. It consists of two sub-maxims: (a) to denigrate self and (b) to elevate other (Gu, 1990:246). In Chinese, it is common to use humble terms to refer to oneself when speaking or writing to others. So when translating business correspondence, we should bear this kind of idea and use appropriate words to translate original texts. For example:


(4)We are glad to know that you are going to visit our company on Thursday.


我们很高兴得知您打算在星期四光临弊公司。


In this sentence, the writer uses “憋公司”, the humble term, to address his or her own company, and uses “” to address the addressee.


4.2.3.2 Elegancy Maxim
