n thinking and cognitive order.Thisproves the iconicity of language from word order.In general,the internal order ofdifferent languages has the same cognitive basis and cognitive order.Left dislocationconstruction,a non-canonical word construction,is the extreme result of our orderlybrain and reflects how iconicity operates.The sequence principle follows logicallyfrom this that people’s language expression is influenced by their own cognition andperception of the real world.It affects how people describe events by influencing thestarting point in time,the geographical perspective they use,and the logicalorganization they employ.Sequence iconicity,as we already knew from the previouschapter,primarily consists of temporal,spatial,and logical sequence.The arrangementof linguistic components in sentences in a speech often demonstrates its temporaliconicity.If they are given in various sequential forms,even the same linguisticcomponents inside the same sentence may have various semantic outcomes.Accordingto spatial iconicity,language structures are arranged in accordance with the speaker’sor writer’s knowledge of the world.When developing a discourse,linguists oftendescribe their ideas by moving from outside to inside,from top to bottom,or from thetotal to the component from their own perspective.To convey the internal relationshipsbetween things and the method by which individuals comprehend things throughlinguistic indicators is to use logical iconicity.While logical sequence includingreason-result sequence,ascending sequence,declining sequence,general-specificsequence,and primary-secondary sequence,etc.

5.1 Major Findings

Iconicity is a popular topic in cognitive linguistics today,and it is important forunderstanding the relationship between language and cognition.This study takesHaiman’s classification of iconicity and Wang’s addition of the theory as the theoreticalframework to analyze left dislocation construction from its representation of iconicityand explore its cognitive motivations based on the representations.During the analysisprocess,it is discovered that the motivations underlying left dislocation constructionsis closely related to the different iconicity principles of cognitive linguistics.Based onthese principles,the mechanism of left dislocation constructions can be analyzed andinterpreted to reveal a more thorough understanding of the cognitive motivation behindit.Although current linguistics lags behind the literary and translation circles,it hasstepped into the research wave of humanism promoted by postmodern philosophy.Theiconicity of language symbols also represents the fundamental principles of cognitivelinguistics and postmodern philosophy.The fact that it can be immediately applied toinform language instruction is even more significant than the fact that it opens up anew avenue for linguistic research and gives theoretical linguistics new life.
