It is necessary to involve the employees in making the decisions, and show interest to them. The company s workforce should be treated as individuals. The employees want to be respected for their differences. The managers and directors of the organization have to respect the employees for their differences in opinion. The best ways to improve the multinational business is to provide effective communication channels to the employees. The workforce may not always approve the management s viewpoint, but by explaining the procedures and reasoning to the employee, they would ultimately respect the management opinions (Robertson, 2007).


Communication is defined as an act or means of conveying information. It is a process through which message are perceived and understood among humans. Communication is one of the most important and basic function of management in any organization. Multinationals interact with firms through different communication methods or channels. These communication channels play an important role to inform, update and influence behaviors in the organization. However, there are some barriers to communication which may affect the effectiveness of the message sent or received. Some of the prominent communication barriers are discussed below:


One kind of barrier that may occur, and is also very common in multinationals communication is the cultural barrier. Culture barrier includes the problems which can arise due to social status, economic position, cultural background, racism, beliefs, ethics and values, priorities and most important is religion. An example for cultural barrier could be that a racist manager will have different attitude towards the employees working in an African country as compared to other countries. In order to overcome this problem the managers appointed should be assessed on their personality and their norms which they follow. In multinationals it is very important that employer and employees should be free from any personal grudges towards different cultures (Hhan, 2010).


Another barrier which can arise is an individual barrier. Apart from the society there are also some individualistic approaches. This obstacle is based on individual's perceptions and personal discomfort. For example, there are some employees who are reluctant or unwilling to speak to their superiors what so ever their position is in the hierarchy. The reason for this could be the fright of being sacked or patronized. Due to the result of unfriendly management, or unapproachable culture adopted within the organization the capabilities of an employee is restricted. These psychological barriers can be minimized by developing an easy going and relaxed culture within the organization, which will help employees to explore their self. For example the culture that is adopted in Google company, where every employee has the right to discover their creativity (Hhan, 2010).


The third barrier is the organizational barrier, or it is also known as the physical barrier.
