摘要:heoreticallyspeaking, it is known that the language learning strategy is an important aspect of foreignlanguage learning and the foreign language learning theory is not complete without thelanguage learning strategy.
Chapter 5 Results and Discussion
5.1 Results and Analysis of Questionnaires
In the present research, there are in total 97 students involved in thepre-questionnaire and 96 of them have been collected since one student was absent whenthe author conducted the per-questionnaire and all of the collected data were provedeffective. The result can basically reflect the overall situation of the VLB and VLSemployed by the students in YuYing Middle School in Yan’an.According to the results of the pre-questionnaire and pre-interview, the maindifficulties that the students in YuYing Middle School encounter in their English learningare illustrated as follows:First of all, most of the students considered vocabulary as the most difficult part inlearning English. The students generally have the following problems: the first and themost difficult part for them is to pronounce the words correctly and learn the words bythemselves. Most of the students can not pronounce the words by themselves; they justlearn the pronunciation of the new words under their teachers’ guidance and some of thestudents even employ Chinese characters to help them remember the pronunciation, andit leads to their bad accent. Besides, the students almost have no idea of the relationshipbetween the word’s pronunciation and its spelling. And this situation leads to their secondproblem: they find the vocabulary hard to remember and easy to forget especially for thelonger words. Because of the above two reasons, when the students remember words,they often turn to the rote strategy which is time-consuming and is of low efficiency. Andit also greatly affects their performance on listening part. The third problem is that thestudents don’t know how to use the words correctly. When remembering a word, most ofthem only remember the basic meaning and neglect its collocation; some of the studentsalways get confused about the usage of some words with similar meanings orcollocations.

Conclusion
The present study is mainly designed to testify the effectiveness of the strategictraining in vocabulary learning (STVL), hoping that students can develop some relativelyright beliefs about the vocabulary learning and grasp some effective vocabulary learningstrategies so as to prepare themselves for becoming an independent learner with highmotivation as well as to lay a solid foundation for their further learning through thetraining. After a four-month STVL program, the author proved that the STVL is effective.The following are the major findings of the present study.Firstly, after the STVL, the students’ beliefs on vocabulary learning have changed alot; the students have developed relatively right beliefs on vocabulary learning.According to the pre-questionnaire and pre-interview, most of the students in EG held theopinion that the words should be remembered through rote, some students believed thatwords should be acquired through context and fewer students thought that words shouldbe learned by application while after the STVL, the results of the post-questionnaire andpost-interview showed that their beliefs has changed.
