It is essential that continuous records are kept of every learner's requirement of any special features, medical conditions, performance and behaviour, which may influence future educational provision. Such information will be particularly important at the transfer stage and on other occasions when a pupil moves from one course to another within the college, this information is also made available to the learner should they request the information, for example, to complete a reference.

I am fortunate that the engineering team to which I am affiliated has high levels of reflexivity - we tend to openly reflect upon the team's objectives, strategies, and processes and adapt them to current or anticipated circumstances, working through things and helping each other as and when required. All of the above information is not to add additional responsibility to the teacher but to emphasize the role he or she plays and the legislation, bureaucracy and strange requirements that have to be accommodated in order to ensure funding and certificating bodies are satisfied. Of course, supportive administrators and parents, a relevant curriculum and appropriate materials facilitate the teacher's responsibilities. Yet it is the teacher who spends a great deal of time with the learners providing clues about the learner's skills, culture, and learning potential, this surely emphasises the pivotal role the teacher plays in the education and the future potential of the students he or she supports.
