A Research on Market Strategies for Foreign Banks’ Entry into China after her Access into WTO
ABSTRACT
China is today one of the fast developing economies and most attractive market in the world. Besides its large consumer group, long
history and colorful culture, it is presently in a transforming process from a centrally planned economy to a market economy. Since China launched its “open door” policy in 1978, a series of reforms has taken place in both political and economic fields opening up the country gradually to the outside world. Great emphases were placed on encouraging and attracting foreign investment by building up a friendly investment environment. Nowadays, China is offering opportunities for foreign insurers to develop business in the country. Many multinational financial companies are on their way to entering the Chinese finance market.
China’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) marked a new era in the global economy. For the first time after more than forty years in a controlled market, China took the step towards fully opening its doors to foreign trade partners. Step by step, these partners will establish their bases in China, enjoying equal access to one of the biggest and fastest growing economies in the world.
Chinese government has made efforts to continuously reform and open up Chinese finance market, so as to catch up with the rest of the world, and to ensure the rapid growth of the Chinese economy in recent decades. All these facts lead to a very healthy investment environment in China. More and more well-known foreign bankers are attracted to take the opportunities to enter this potential market.
We believe that it is very important for a company to have a clear understanding of marketing theories when it enters a new market so that the company can make full use of its advantages and avoid its disadvantages.
Therefore, in chapter 2, we will analyze the marketing elements. With all the theoretical analysis in mind, we will try to build appropriate market penetration strategies for the foreign finance company towards the Chinese finance market.
In research chapter 3, we are going to present and analyze the macro-environment in China, which consists of all factors and forces influencing the company’s abilities to establish successfully in the target market. We believe that a good knowledge of the country’s macro-environment is the key for foreign banks adopting suitable strategies toward the market. In this part, we will study in detail China’s political situation, economic development, legal system, technological environment as well as other relative factors affecting foreign banks establishment in the country.
In order to put forward constructive suggestions for foreign finance companies’ entry into China, we’ d better make overall acknowledgment of the development conditions of foreign banks in chapter 4.
All above analysis founds the base for the core discussion of the
thesis---chapter 5 in which the author have bring forward five priorities for foreign finance companies to take for their successful establishment business in China market.
Finally, some conclusions and remarks will be presented in chapter 6.
