Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Research Background
To begin with,moral Education has been placed on senior high school students inGeneral Senior High School Curriculum Standards:English(2017 Edition Revised 2020)bythe Ministry of Education(2020).Therefore,the English curriculum plays a major role ineducational function,aiming at developing students’language ability,cultural awareness,critical thinking,and learning ability.English curriculum pays attention to the application oflanguage and help students learn,understand and appreciate valuable cultures both Chineseand foreign.It’s the most important thing for students to form a correct view of the world,life,and value.
Although the significance of English reading has been widely acknowledged,senior highschool students’overall development in reading is far from satisfactory.The phenomenon ofsurface learning hinders students’development in reading.Language is the carrier of culture.We can understand different cultures by means of language.Through English reading,students can understand the lifestyle,thinking mode,and etiquette of people in differentcultures.The precondition is that students can read and understand.Guo Yuanxiang(2017)pointed out that knowledge is a symbolic representation that consists of logical form andmeaning.Any knowledge is represented by specific symbols,and symbols are informationabout the world.In education,students obtain symbolic knowledge at the beginning,but it isnarrow to regard symbolic representation as to the whole knowledge.
1.2 Research Significance
Studying the application of deep learning to senior high school English reading teachinghas two significances.On the one hand,it enriches the foundation of deep learning.On theother hand,it provides English teachers with reading teaching experiences to facilitatestudents use of deep learning.
Theoretically speaking,this study,to a certain extent,enriches the theory of Englishreading and provides new inspirations for future studies on deep learning.Owing to therestrictions,English reading studies are based on instructional design which belongs to thetechnical discussion.Further research is needed on the theoretical level of English reading.Deep learning aims to construct personal knowledge system and effectively transfer it to realsituations to solve complex problems which provides a new perspective for senior high schoolEnglish reading teaching.The connotation of deep learning and deep reading coincide in thecultivation of thinking and the acquisition of meaning.Given this situation,this researchinvestigated the influence of deep learning on senior high school students’reading.
