As mentioned above, language ideology is a kind of view of language thatpeople hold, as well as their attitudes towards other languages and language varieties.Through stylistic variation, anchors combine other styles such as colloquial style,Internet language style, English style, some regional dialect styles, etc. with MandarinChinese style and form the news expounding style which adds vividness to anchors’broadcasting language. During the process of stylistic variation, a special view oflanguage belong to anchors is formed, that is, they hold an interactional view oflanguage, i.e., in their eyes, language is a practical tool that is used by people tocommunicate with others for the realization of interpersonal relations and for theperformance of social transactions between individuals. In this column, anchors uselanguage to transmit news to the audience and their identity as the news anchors isalso established.

8.1 Conclusion

This thesis aims at exploring characteristics of CCTV news anchors’ stylisticvariation in the short video news column named Anchors Expounding Lianbo on thebasis of comparing 30 episodes of CCTV News and 30 episodes of AnchorsExpounding Lianbo, then finding out the reasons for their stylistic variation, andfurther analyzing the influence of anchors’ stylistic variation on language ideology.The conclusion of the study is presented as follows.

Firstly, in the column Anchors Expounding Lianbo, through stylistic variation,the news expounding style comes into being. Characteristics of anchors’ stylisticvariation mainly lie in the intra-lingual and paralanguage aspect. Specificallyspeaking, in the intra-lingual aspect, anchors make stylistic variation in words,sentences and discourse markers. On the other hand, various types of sentences areadopted by anchors in Anchors Expounding Lianbo. Besides declarative andexclamatory sentences, a great number of interrogative sentences such as echoquestions, rhetorical questions and general questions, etc. are adopted by anchors.Furthermore, anchors use more types and lager quantity of discourse markers inAnchors Expounding Lianbo to make the content more cohesive and express theirpoints of view clearly.

In the paralanguage aspect, anchors innovate their style mainly in voice-basedparalanguage features and body language. They adjust the broadcasting tempo,intonation and rhythm constantly according to the topic, content and their ownunderstanding of the news during the process of expounding news. What’s more, thebody language of anchors is richer. Anchors make more facial expressions andgestures of the body parts like nodding, moving their hands, arms, etc. as they broadcast news.

Secondly, the thesis also explores the reasons why anchors make such stylisticvariation in Anchors Expounding Lianbo. On the one hand, anchors innovate theirstyle out of both internal and external factors. External factors are made up of officialrequest, audience’s demand and the need to break the deadlock.
