It is therefore necessary and urgent to recognize the trilogy’s technological downsides by exploring its details. The trilogy is Atwood’s warning to today’s society from the perspectives of biotechnology and anthropology. The path from food and animals to the human body can be regard as a step-by-step violation of the foundation on which life is built. It is also a realistic route in our development process. This process warns the negative consequences of our current trend of technological civilization. The abnormal bodies, identities and behaviors of people shape the subsequent state of human existence, which distorts the nature of life itself.

From the moment man’s endless desire comes into conflict with the world, the gestell, which makes everything instrumental, has gradually been established with the development of modern society. In the trilogy, the popular technological thought makes animals, humans, as well as everything on the earth instrumental. The technological control discussed in this thesis is actually an epitome of countless similar devices, for example, the electronic products, development indicators and promotion systems in people’s daily life. People can be controlled by any device in this gestell. However, food that makes people less vigilant occupies a large number of pages in Atwood’s writing. In the second chapter of this thesis, food is discussed as a device to influence people in different situations. As a daily necessity, genetically-modified food reduces people’s sense of crisis to technology and it also contaminates their eating ethics. From family scope to society scope, discipline of food imposed on human has been intensified since technology affected the production and selling process of food. With eating technological food, man’s inner spirit is distorted and the relationships between people are alienated. Technological food exacerbates the plight of the vulnerable in both family and society field. Corruption of the concept of eating even leads to cannibalism conducted both symbolically and behaviorally in the society. Firstly, the oppression of man by man, the annexation between different social classes become evident everywhere, and secondly, the substance that man eats becomes sinful due to its filthy ingredients.
