ce=Verdana>Clarks is a company that until a few years ago, I did not associate with fashion and style. However at my wits end one day, I decided to take a look inside and see what was on offer. Since that day I have never looked back and I always take a look inside when it is time to buy a new pair of shoes.

~~ The Clarks Company ~~

Clarks started off in 1825, as a sheepskin business in the village of Street in Somerset. In 1830 the first shoes produced were sheepskin slippers. Today the company owns 500 shops, and their brand is sold through 1500 stockists.*

~~ The Shops ~~

The shoe displays have some thought put into them, both in the window and inside. It is not just a case of as many shoes as possible being crammed into a small area. There is always a lot of room to take a walk up and down when trying a pair of shoes, and a mirror so the buyer can see how they look. There is also plenty of comfortable seating.

~~ The Staff ~~

I have always found Clarks staff very knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy. They will have a shot at selling me a polish if I buy shoes but always take my refusal with good grace. The only gripe I have is that they will always bring me a smaller size, if a size 8 is not in stock. This invariably wastes my time and theirs. However if they do not have a shoe in my size that I am interested in buying, they are always willing to order it for me.

Last time I tried a pair of shoes on, I was mortified to find that I could not do the buckles up myself due to back problems. The woman member of staff very discreetly helped me as soon as she saw that I was in trouble, saving me from being embarrassed in front of the many other customers.

~~ The Shoes ~~

On every visit to my local Clarks store, I have always found stylish modern looking shoes, boots and sandals that I like. More important they fit me. Clarks mostly sell their own brand, however they also stock shoes made by Ecco, a Danish company.

The majority of the shoes I buy are for everyday wear, and in the past I have bought both Clarks and Ecco shoes and found both brands very satisfactory. However, Ecco shoes are built more for comfort than glamour, so when looking for a flashy pair of shoes to wear out in the evening, I go for Clarks shoes.

Shoes sold by Clarks are expensive compared to some other manufacturers’ products. I find them worth the money, because I can go about my normal daily activities that include a lot of walking, without the shoes wearing out within a few months. Usually a pair of shoes bought at Clarks will last me two winters or summers.

Most important they fit my awkward feet, do not cause blisters and discomfort, or make me walk like something has been shoved up my bum.

~~ Clarks Sales ~~

The sales at Clarks are always worth visiting. I have quite often managed to buy shoes at half their original price. If you have one of the Clarks stores that sell seconds and end of line stock in your town; these may be also worth a visit if you take a smaller size.
