Nature of Assessment

The vehicle for assessment on this module comprises one individual element:

• A written Essay of up to 3500 words

You will be marked as per the following categories: Fail (0-49%), Pass (50-64%), Merit (65-74%) and Distinction (75%+). The essay must be submitted on May 14th.

The task

This component will be based upon a relevant global marketing issue/topic, comprising marketing topic, market context and case company, selected by you and approved by the module leader. The essay that you submit should:

i) Introduce your topic and a brief rationale for your choice. The marketing topic choice is limited to either ‘Foreign Market Entry’ or ‘Marketing Management in a Foreign Market’.

ii) Present a critical evaluation of the literature relating to your chosen marketing topic, progressively narrowing the focus through to how it relates to/affects your selected market(s) and company

ii) Discuss the managerial implications of the conclusions you have drawn from your discussion of the literature. These implications should incorporate your own ideas and/or evaluation of your company’s chosen or proposed strategy as well as a clear comparison with the relevant theoretical perspectives/prescriptions drawn you’re your literature review. Draw conclusions and make suggestions as to how companies might act in the future based on your analysis and understanding.

This essay should consist of a maximum of 3500 words, excluding appendices, References and table of contents. Your references should follow the Harvard system, citing author’s surname and year of publication within the text (e.g. Andrews et al, 2002) followed by comprehensive details in the References section at the end.
