　　With the deepening of globalization, news becomes the vital part of informationexchange among different countries. Since English is the most-widely used language inthe world, the quality of Chinese translation of English news will directly affect thecommunication between China and other countries. Therefore it is necessary to make aprofound study of the strategies of Chinese translation of English news. But the fact isthat the study of news translation theories lags behind its practices.https://www.51lunwen.org/news/ Professor Dr.Huangfrom Huazhong University of Science and Technology has made statistics of articlesissued on CNKI from 1979 to 2006 about news translation. The following two tables,which are made on the basis of her statistics, will give us a clear picture of recentstudies about news translation.in which the definition of ―dynamic equivalence‖ is given as ―in terms of the degree towhich the receptors of the message in the receptor language respond to it insubstantially the same manner as the receptors in the source language‖ (Nida andTaber, 1969:24). In order to avoid being misinterpreted, Eugene·Nida puts forward―functional equivalence‖ to replace ―dynamic equivalence‖. Since then, Nida‘sfunctional equivalence theory has become one of the most important translation theories.―Content is over form‖ and ―reader‘s responses‖ are the two most essential concepts inNada‘s Functional Equivalence theory. When assessing the quality of the translationversion, translators must make a comparison between target reader‘s responses to thetranslation version with that of the original readers to the original text so as to seewhether their responses are equivalent. There is no doubt that ―content is over form‖and its focus on ―target readers‘ response‖ has already become the criteria in manytranslation practices. According to Nida‘s Functional Equivalence theory, translatorsshould not only grasp the content of the source language text and faithfully convey itsoriginal content, but also should take the target readers‘ response into consideration. Asthe major purpose of English news is to inform readers, faithfully conveying the originalcontent and meeting readers‘ needs becomes equally important. Therefore, it is feasibleto applicate Nida‘s Functional Equivalence theory to the studies of the strategies ofChinese translation of English news as they have the same orientation.
