Although the source text is a psychology textbook,it also contains some cultural information.For the processing of cultural information,in order to avoid the phenomenon of insufficienttranslation,the translator usually reserves this cultural feature under the guidance of SemanticTranslation.In this translation practice,in order to avoid cultural defects,the translator adopts theliteral translation of slang,retains the language and culture of the source text,which is also in linewith the main purpose of Semantic Translation,supplemented by Communicative Translation.

Firstly,in this translation practice,the translator translated the psychology textbook ApplyingPsychology to Daily Life under the guidance of Newmark's Communicative Translation andSemantic Translation.Under the guidance of Semantic Translation,the translator adopts notation andliteral translation of cultural words at lexical level.At syntactic level,the translator adopts literaltranslation and reservation of special sentence elements.At discourse level,the translator adoptsliteral translation of rhetoric,such as questioning and metaphor.Under the guidance ofCommunicative Translation,the translator adopts addition,omission and conversion at lexical level.At the syntactic level,the translator adopts division and reconstruction;At discourse level,thetranslator analyzes the coherence and cohesion in paragraphs.Through the analysis of examples,wecan see the importance of appropriate translation theory to translation practice.Choosing appropriatetranslation methods can greatly improve the quality of translation.

Secondly,since the translation practice is a psychology textbook,which not only contains a lotof complex sentences,but also includes a lot of unique characteristics,such as frequent use ofrhetoric methods,parentheses.Consequently,in translation,the translator should reasonably useCommunicative Translation and Semantic Translation.Only in this way can the final translation bemore acceptable to target readers.

Finally,through this translation practice,the translator realizes that translation is a step-by-stepprocess,which needs repeated consideration,examination,modification,so as to obtain high-qualitytranslation.In the process of translation,the translator finds that there are many gaps in knowledgeand not concise enough in expression.After reflection,the translator realizes that my translationskills and language expression ability still need to be improved.Only by expanding my knowledgeand carrying out a lot of translation practice can I gradually make up for my lack of ability andbecome a qualified translator.
