1. Introduction

1.1 Background of the Project

Guangxi Automobile Industry is one of the most advantageous and potential pillarindustries. The total amount of automobile industry in Liuzhou takes the proportion of 75%of automobile industry in this area. There are four vehicles and special vehicle productionbases. The report is based on author’s translation of handbook of X company (Mini-carSeries) in X Automobile company during the internship. The translation of the handbookprogram is one of the missions of translation task. Brief introduction of X company,knowledge of basic products and after-sale service are included in the text of the report.

With the daily enlarged scale of economy construction since joining WTO, theChinese government has decided to boost the development of its national economy alongwith the expansion of the world economy(潘卫民 2011). And the communication ofeconomy, trade and technology brought by information network time, sci-tech translation(including automobile translation) is a bridge for all technical workers in every country tostudy, explore and absorb others advanced technology. It not only plays an important rolein promoting international information communication and in improving national scienceand technology quality, but also a role of pusher in sharing human technology and scienceachievements, boosting international communication and cooperation and driving themutual development of global social economy. Under the background of currentinformation, industrialization and globalization, many Chinese local enterprises acceleratethe international steps. X Automobile company should be the demonstration and model inthe industry.

1.2 Significance of the Project

My research direction is the theory and practice of sci-tech translation. In thepostgraduate stage, I had been an intern in X Automobile company as a translator. Xcompany has been enlarged ceaselessly and the output is increasing to develop into aninternationalized and modernized large local enterprise gradually. The overseas branchSOP (Standard Operating Procedure) proves that internalization is the development trend of the enterprise. Consequently, many Chinese document texts are in need of foreignlanguage (English) version.

Firstly, the translation of Handbook of X company (Mini-car Series) is one of mymissions. Brief introduction of X company, knowledge of basic products and after-saleservice are included in the text of the report. There are certain difficulties in theunderstanding of technical principles related to automobile, but some specialized obstaclescould be overcome finally with the help of campus tutor’s patience guidance. During the13th Five-Year Plan, Guangxi automobile industry strategic planning and developmentability, technical innovation ability, management ability have been in a new stage. Therapid development of regional automobile mechanical technology makes the internationaltechnology communication frequently and the demand of sci-tech English translation isincreased.
