4.1 Scientific Terms

The process of sci-tech translation is a process of making continuous linguisticchoices and it is generated under the limitation of language structure, cultural cognitionand technology specification, which proposes that translator’s subjectivity is thetranslator’s conscious awareness of his creativity. It influences the process and outcome oftranslation(许钧 2003). In other words, technical translation in essence is a meaningdynamic comprehensive process between source text and translation text driven by themeaningful functioning of language, and it is a dynamic constrained generative process.Generation is the inner motivation of technical translation so as to generate a series ofalternative possibilities for a certain scientific term or language. Therefore, technicaltranslation should pay attention to the dynamic nature of sci-tech translation, and explorethe variability of scientific language, display the generation of translation to form anawareness of translation generation for cultivating the capacity of translation generation soas to improve translation skills for scientific terms.

It is translated into “张力”, “电压”, “压力” in mechanics, electronics,and physics, and can not be attributed to standardize or model technical terms. 5. Conclusion

The translation work of Handbook of X company (Mini-car Series) is arepresentative project finished during the authors’ internship of postgraduate years. Thisreport introduces much preparation has been made, including analyzing the textual featuresof the source text, finishing the translation according to the criteria principles of sci-techtranslation that is well appreciated by the clients in X company. The principles of sci-techtranslation proposes a high requirements for the translator. Although the author came crossmany difficulties in the translation process, but finally overcame them and completed thetranslation work as planned.

Through this translation practice, the author realized that the rapid development ofscience and technology in the new era must make a high requirement for the quality ofChinese-English sci-tech translators. As an “expert” in translation practice, the translator istrusted to know more about the particular field than others, meanwhile, he is responsiblefor commissioned task, and the final translation work (Vermeer 2004).
