). Since the late Middle Ages, from the depiction of child saints, the belief that adults should take care of the young and innocent has taken shape (Branscombe et al. 2000). This is the emotional value that The Graveyard Book offers to the children readers.

In The Graveyard Book, there are many moments that can make children feel horror and tension, such as murder, dead, school violence and so on. These provide the background for children readers to generate strong emotions that are the same as those generated by children readers experiencing some exciting and dangerous adventures firsthand. Nowadays, children readers can experience the thrills and excitement without receiving any physical harm.

Secondly, some taboos are formed because there is no way to be easily explained by science, which is why people are scared of them and thus avoid talking about them. Such fears can also spread to the next generation, thus forming a cycle.
