’s Cabin, the great and stunning literary work, in an attempt to reveal the evils of slavery, accusing its trampling and destruction of human nature. Although as a white woman, Mrs. Stowe’s life experience made her closely related to the black people at that time, which led to the birth of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. In the 1940s, Alice Walker was born into a black sharecropper family in southern Georgia. At that time, the black people’s living conditions were still extremely difficult in the southern United States although they were endowed with freedom in law. They still lived under the exploitation of the white people and suffered from racial oppression and persecution by the whites. In 1960, At the age of sixteen, Alice Walker saw Martin Luther King on television for the first time, which had a profound impact on her, prompting her to find the goal of fighting for the black people’s rights. In 1963, Walker participated in the black people’s march for employment and freedom, which was the largest demonstration in American history, and she also listened to Martin Luther King’s famous speech “I Have a Dream”. During this period, Walker read the works of many famous women writers, paying more attention to equality, women’s rights and social justice.

It is worthy of being pointed out that Uncle Tom’s Cabin attaches importance to the direct description of the persecution of the black people and the black women caused by racism, while The Color Purple pays more attention to the problem of gender discrimination within the black race, giving emphasis to the oppression on the black women exerted by the black men of the same race, which further reflects the evil consequences of racism from the side from this perspective. What is more, what The Color Purple is committed to conveying is the Womanist thought that takes the survival and integrity of the entire human race as its own responsibility, advocating the equality and coexistence between people of different races and genders. It is different from the pure Feminist thought as it abandons the antagonistic mode of “dual opposition” in the traditional western thinking and pays much attention to more than the gender issue as well as reflecting its unique positive and optimistic attitude towards the future. It is undoubtedly that Walker’s “Womanism” is an innovative development of Feminism. In addition, in The Color Purple, Walker resolutely criticizes and discards the Christian spirit advocated by Mrs. Stowe, holding the firm belief that the Western Christi论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
