摘要:From the above analysis of the present situation, the researcher of the presentstudy thinks that it is necessary to discuss peer feedback in depth, in order that thefindings will help Chinese English teachers implement peer feedback in effectiveways.

Chapter 2 Literature Review


2.1 Peer Feedback
Feedback is one of the fundamental concepts of modern science and technology.Generally speaking, the control theory defines feedback as the process of returningthe output of one system to the input place and compare it to how much input thereare. In the field of other subjects, including physics, biological medicine,information, electronic business, education, psychology and the like, each major hasits own definition, meanwhile, there are also lots of corresponding concepts such asfeedback, feedback intervention, feedback controlling net and so on.In teaching, feedback means that learners will receive some comments orinformation which was given by teachers or other people, all they got are aboutwhether the learning task was successfully finished (Richards, J.C. et al., 2005). Interms of this definition, feedback can be any information connected with the resultsof behaviors. For example, in phonetics, feedback can spread through both the airand bones. That can also explain meaningfully why if a person produces a sound, theone he or she hears is different from it in others’ ears. Besides, it is known thatsometimes the sound recorded on tapes sounds strange, even embarrassing.Therefore, it is necessary to receive some information from others. On one hand, heor she may distinct what is right or wrong with the help of others’ feedback. On theother hand, he or she may learn more knowledge and see things more clearly.

2.2 Writing


2.2.1 Definition of Writing
The term writing contains two meanings. The first meaning is the act of writingand the second means the written work. In college English teaching, writing is animportant skill and a kind of activity which involves composing. The writers shoulduse English vocabulary, grammar, and text to express what in their minds in areasonable and logical way.Writing is thought transformed into a visual form (Neufeld, 1985). The writingprocess starts with an idea. An individual construct his or her perceptions, feelings,and knowledge. Thus, an idea which can be seemed as the substance of writing isborn. In a word, writing is a process of an individual takes an idea from his or herhead and putting this idea into a code which can be shared with others.When an individual is going to write, he or she usually has a central purpose orcentral idea in communicating with readers, and also aims to produce some effectsto the readers. These purpose or ends is the one that determines the type of writingthat one is going to use in writing.
