Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Research background
English writing is the cognitive process of language output,which has long beenregarded as one of the most difficult tasks for senior high school students.Despite the factthat many teachers strive to improve their students’writing ability,it is difficult for studentsto make a breakthrough.Traditional English teaching involves students accumulatingvocabulary and imitating other people's writing as part of their English writing practice.When instructing students to write,teachers often assign writing tasks,requiring them tocomplete them within a certain amount of time,or provide them with some templates toemulate.After students submit their final drafts,teachers correct them.Obviously,theprocess of writing is ignored.In other words,teachers often turn a blind eye to howstudents perform writing tasks and only focus on the quality of their writing.This methodof teaching English writing can not help students to make great progress in writing.
Since the reform began to be implemented,Zhejiang Province has adopted Englishcontinuation writing in the College Entrance Examination for many times and AnhuiProvince also joined the reform in 2021.The English continuation writing requires studentsto read a passage of about 350 words,and then write a two-paragraph essay of about 150words based on the information in the passage.The opening sentences of the paragraphshave been given.It can be seen that the continuation writing combines reading and writingso that students'reading and writing skills can be tested.
1.2 Research purpose
Currently,senior high school students are confused when faced with continuationwriting.Most of them have no idea about what to write and how to write because they arelacking in language competence as well as thinking quality.In classroom teaching,teachersusually use traditional teaching methods,which is not beneficial to the cultivation ofstudents’thinking ability and comprehension ability.In order to effectively improve thelevel of writing teaching,scientific and reasonable teaching methods are urgently needed.
At present,a lot of researches have been carried out on the teaching of English writingin senior high schools,but there are few researches on English continuation writing.At thesame time,there are many researches on mind maps,but relatively few researches on theuse of thinking visualization.What’s more,there are very few studies of the application ofthinking visualization to the teaching of continuation writing.Therefore,this actionresearch attempts to apply thinking visualization to the teaching of continuation writing soas to prove the hypothesis that thinking visualization training can improve senior highschool students’performance in English continuation writing.
Chapter Two Literature Review
2.1 An overview of English continuation writing
