  至于绝大部分的母语非英语为母语的学习者来说,炎不可否认的是,学习英语是既耗费时间和艰苦,尤其是对于大多数中国学生。尽管教育部已经实施对英语教学的教学大纲和课程的改革,并建议新的教学方法,绝大多数的中国学生从幼儿园到大学学生的英语学习的痛苦As far as a great majority of non-native-English-speaking learners are concerned, itis undeniable that learning English is both time consuming and painstaking, especiallyfor most Chinese students. Despite that the Ministry of Education has implementedreforms on English teaching syllabuses and curriculum and also recommendednewly-developed teaching methodologies, a vast majority of Chinese from kindergartenstudents to college students are suffering from English learning. It seems that they aredoomed be unsuccessful in learning English in spite of spending more than 50% of theirafter-class time on learning this language. What is worse is that with furtherdevelopment of globalization, grasping the language of English becomes the necessaryprerequisite in communicating with foreigners from various countries. Thus, it seemsthat English is destined to be the lingua franc via which people speaking differentlanguages can smoothly communicate with each other for the purpose of trading ortransmitting cultures and so on. In China, Chinese English-learners have occupied a vastmajority of worldwide English learners. And this situation becomes worse because ofthe every-year expansion of college student enrollments in recent years. This expansioncan strengthen job-hunting competitions between college graduates.https://www.51lunwen.org/yywxlw/  And thosegraduates with a high proficiency in English language always have more opportunitiesto find higher-salary jobs. It is more possible for them to be employed by companiesoffering attractive salaries. Therefore, college students are forced to exert their utmostenergy to leam English well enough. However, English learning achievements arealways completely opposite from what they have expected. More time spent on, morefrustrated they become. It is like a vicious circle that will greatly defeat learners'confidence and interest.One possible reason is that college students haven't a thorough understandingabout the purpose of learning English for so many years. It is known that ideologydetermines actions. Thus, their English learning are only confined to overcome variousexercises rather than for daily communications. They are labeled as “dumb and deaf’English learners. Thus, it can be seen that learning strategies can have great impacts onlanguage learning. With respect to learning strategies, O'Malley and Chamot (2001)divide various strategies into metacognitive strategies, cognitive strategies, as well associal and affective strategies. In this thesis, only metacognitive strategies are taken intoconsiderations in that metacognition is the original understanding about cognition andmetacognitive strategies are higher executives of other orders. Variables influencingparticipants' preferences in using metacognitive strategies are personality types. Here,they refer to extroversion and introversion. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is toexplore the correlations between extroversion/introversion and metacognitive strategiesuses by a survey into tertiary-level non-English majors.
