The rhythmical beauty of language inprose has not been given enough attention to by translators andresearchers in prose translation. What's more, the author of this thesisfind that many researches have not given enough attention to theimportance of stylistic analysis to the original text. Therefore, the authorof the thesis chooses a piece of prose, try to make a comparative study ofits English versions in stylistic features, hoping that stylistics can also beintroduced into studies of prose translation to enrich the theoreticalcontent in prose researches and to make up for the neglected or not sovalued rhythmical beauty of prose in previous studies. Besides, the authorhopes to draw some practical conclusions for translators in prosetranslation with this case study to help with the C-E translation of prose.The traditional theoretical researches in translation in China aregenerally relative with the Skopos theory, aesthetic theory, etc, so thetheoretical content is not so various. It is well known that He Tang Yue Seis a great piece of prosaic work, beautiful whether in form or in content.This paper combines literary stylistics with translation, takes the typicalprose He Tang Yue Se as an example, and makes a comparative stylisticanalysis on its two English versions, hoping that it can enrich thetheoretical research in translation area. What's more, in aspect of practice,this thesis makes research from the stylistic features of a piece of proseand comparison of its different English versions, explores the regularpattern of good translations, hoping to help every translator establish aproper style in their translating activities and improve the quality oftranslation in an effective way. Therefore, they will try their best toconvey the content and style of the original more effectively and increasethe literary features of prose. In this sense, it can be said that stylisticanalysis can help and instruct the C-E translation of prose.The author here will adopt a comparative approach to analyze andcompare the conveyance of the stylistic features of Zhu Ziqing's He TangYue Se in its two English versions. Trough the study, the author willdemonstrate in detail how the translations transform the stylistic featuresof the original into another language, and to what extent they are faithfulto the original. For the choice of concrete examples, in some cases theexhaustive method is adopted, and for some parts only several typicalexamples are chosen. In other words, examples of one particular kind oflinguistic phenomenon will be all extracted from the two versions, but incases where too much examples are similar to each other, the author willonly analyze several representative ones.This thesis consists of five parts: introduction, literature review,stylistic features of He Tang Yue Se, the contrastive study of the chosentwo English versions of He Tang Yue Se, and conclusion. The introductionis comprised of the research background, significance of the research, theresearch methodology and framework of this thesis. Chapter One is aliterature review which introduces the theoretical basis of this study andthe previous study on the existed English renderings of He Tang Yue Se.Chapter Two explores the stylistic features of He Tang Yue Se in detail,which lays a foundation for the analysis in Chapter Three.
