ChapterⅡ Description of the Translation Procedure


2.1 Pre-translation Stage

The translator selected the translation materials from Australian Studies Center,Inner Mongolia Normal University, called Hughie, written by David Martin. Itbelongs to the research field of children's fiction. The number of translated words isabout 15,000 words in English. After the translator has determined the translationmaterials, the translation process should be divided into two parts: an accurateunderstanding of the original text and how to express the original text (Zhao, 2020).Before starting the translation, preparation is particularly important. The translatorfirst read the original text roughly. Then the initial preparation stage is divided into thefollowing parts: background of the author, background of the relevant culture,reference to parallel texts, translation tools preparation.

2.1.1 Background of theAuthor

David Martin is an Australian prose writer and poet. He was born in Hungary in1915 and his life experience is quite rich. He grew up in Germany and settled inAustralia in 1949. During his stay in Germany, he worked as a gardener in Holland, ina Palestinian kibbutz; in a limekiln in Nazereth and on the Haifa waterfront. He was aSpanish Republican first-aid man and a journalist in India. He spent most of the waryears in London, writing anti-Nazi broadcasts and his first books in English.

2.2 While-translation Process

During the translation process, the translator read the source text three times. Inthe first place the translator briefly read the article to grasp the main content. In thesecond place, the translator reads the article intensively and grasps the main meaningthat the author wants to express. Finally, after the translator reads it again, determinesthe translation method and makes relevant preparations, the translation will officiallystart. The translation process is very long, but all roads lead to Rome, and the culturalbackground information of the original text and other professionals have given thetranslator a lot of help.

In the translation process, how can the style of the source text be preserved to thegreatest extent in the style of the translation and convey it to the target readers is themain problem to be solved in this report. On the basis of understanding, accurateexpression can enable readers to understand clearly. Good language skills are thefoundation, which plays a very important role in the relationship between readers andauthors. When translating, the translator encountered the following problems due toher own and original background and other reasons.
