Sustainable development principle

As sustainable development involves natural, environmental, social, economic, technological, political and other aspects, due to the different angles, investigators define sustainable development differently, which can roughly summarized as follows; focusing on a natural aspect, sustainable development refers to the development which is not beyond the environment and the updating capabilities of a system( Pincetl, Bunje and Holmes, 2012); focusing on a social aspect, sustainable development is defined as improving the quality of human life without exceeding the assimilative capacity of the ecosystem(Doh, Littell and Quigley, 2015); focus on an economic aspect, sustainable development is defined as maintaining the welfare increase of contemporary people without reducing welfare of future generations(Serafy, 1997); focusing on a science and technology aspect, sustainable development is emphasizing the use of cleaner technologies to achieve zero emission and minimize consumption of energy and other natural resources as possible as it can ( Kelly, 2009).
Traditional construction project management is essentially a kind of management which takes a project as the center and emphasizes the practical utility of a project, it takes immediate quality, cost, duration of a project as the final purposes of management and consider more about the economic benefits of project management and less for social interest, environmental protection (Jeon, Amekudzi and Guensler, 2013). However, sustainable project management should not ignore the maintenance of the ecological environment, maintaining ecological balance, and assuming corporate social responsibility. Thus, in today's construction project management, the issue of the prevalence of going against sustainable development exists. As project management purposes in the ordinary sense, the purposes should include quality purpose, economic purpose, scheduling purpose. The purposes of sustainable development of project management are far beyond these three purposes, they must complete the long-term maximization of the purpose of environmental quality, economic benefits, as well as the unity and harmony of man and nature, man and society(Jeon, Amekudzi and Guensler,2013).
In a project, participants of the project include: government departments, owners, survey and design units, supervision units, contractors, material suppliers, customers. Thus the behavior of each participant will have a great impact on the sustainable development of the whole project (Marcelino-Sádaba, González-Jaen and Pérez-Ezcurdia, 2015).
