Because of the influence of the news media'spolitical position, target readers, many other factors, and any news reports are verydifficult to really achieve the truth and fairness. Therefore, the reader during readingthe news should take account of such factors, as objective as possible understand thereport content.

Chapter Two Literature Review

In this chapter, the major aim is to provide the theoretical background aboutinterpersonal meta-function, projection and English news.

2.1 Interpersonal Meta-function
Interpersonal meta-function is from the theory of Halliday, which is one of threemetal-functions of language. Halliday established the interpersonal meaning oflanguage system, in order to study and discuss exchange of people thoughts,dialogue and interaction. E.g. the speaker as participants of the speech event showedrole relationship between the speaker and listener by the communicative intention ofpersonal view, attitude and evaluation.

2.1.1 Halliday’s Three Meta-functions of Language
Systemic functional linguistics is developed under the anthropological tradition.Compared with other schools of linguistics, it is different. System functionLinguistics emphasizes the language user's society, focusing on characteristics andfunction of the language in real application. It is adhering to the Malinowski，BronislawKaspar on language study of the context of thought, inheriting the thoughtof language function of Prague. Halliday systemic functional linguistics focuses onhuman nature, social nature of language side. Therefore, he always takes the actualuse of language as the object of language exploration and studies the meaning of theexpression of the language in the situational context. He thought that thecommunication of language is the social behavior of a social person.

Conclusion

Every research has its weakness, so does this one. Though in this research greatefforts have been made, it still has its own limitations.Firstly, the corpus has limitations. The corpus only includes 30 news texts fromonly five kinds of English journals. What's more, these 30 pieces of news are allfrom news reports, not involving other media.
