摘要：In the modern society of market economy today, information is playing amore and more important part in the current world and has become an essentialmeans of market competition among different companies. With the rapiddevelopment of economic globalization, transnational enterprises have beenplaying a strategic role in the economic development as an important and activemajor driving force in the global economy.

Chapter One Introduction

In this chapter, the author first gives a brief review of the researchbackground concerned with the study of English news release in transnationalenterprises. After that, the significance and purpose of the present research in thisaspect are presented. Finally, the author provides the overall organization of thepresent thesis.

1.1 Research Background
As a common international guage，English is playing an important role inthe modem society today. It is widely used in international business and hasbecome the official working language for communication, negotiation, operationand trade in many transnational enterprises. For the purpose of continuouslyexpanding the global market, companies especially transnational enterprises tendto use English language more than ever before. Many important documents andmaterials in transnational enterprises are written in Enelish. and almost all theI ‘company websites of transnational enterprises have English version, so do theInews releases in transnational enterprises. It is very common to find a column partIIfor news release, in other words, news statement, press release, press statement orI ‘Media release on the company websites of different transnational enterprises.
A news release, also called press release, news statement or press statement in‘ transnational enterprises is a piece of written or recorded information, whichInormal announces a range of news items, such as scheduled events, milestone events, personal promotions, awards, celebrations, launching of new products andservices, campaigns in sales and marketing, company accomplishments, companydecisions including acquisitions and cooperation and so on. It fits into the categoryof journalistic English or news English. A good and successful corporate newsrelease is not only the source of information about an enterprise, but it also plays avital role as an impressive public presentation and effective promotion oradvertising material for the company. In addition, a high-quality corporate newsrelease is contributive to achieving better information communication withpotential customers, business partners of the company and the general public. Italso has the benefits of attracting favorable public attention or providing publicityfor products, services or events marketed by the companies, which in turn will helpexpand the global popularity and improve reputation of the business.
To a large extent, the operation of transnational enterprises in the globalmarket requires that English should be an essential part of business writing. Onthat account, the importance of business writing on English news release in anaccurate and decent manner and with a suitable style is highly contributive to thesuccess of the business. And this is the reason why news releases have arousedwide aoncem in linguistic study at present. Therefore, the author attempts to carryout the stylistic research of news release in transnational enterprises from a brandnew perspective. Through detailed and comparative analysis of the news releasesamples collected from eighteen transnational enterprises, the readers will get tounderstand the stylistic features of them and better master the reading skill to getthe information they need in reading English news releases.
