Conclusion

Milton is a great artist in English history and is known as one of the six great poetsin English literature history.For a long time,the academic circles have rich andsufficient arguments on whether Satan,the character in Milton’s works,is a fearlessrebel or a shameless degenerate.Researches before continued the tradition way ofanalyzing Paradise Lost as a long epic about human depravity.It tells the story of theancestors Adam and Eve who were pure and innocent in the Garden of Eden,andrebelled against God’s will because of the temptation of Satan,so as to commitdepravity and sin.The protagonist in the epic is Satan,the first fallen angels whobetrayed God and launched a rebellion in heaven,and his companion was also an angelwho broke out of heaven.In order to instigate Adam and Eve to rebel against God,Satan has experienced various dangers and tests.In this complex work,the story ofhuman beings losing paradise expresses the author’s puritanism,while the description ofSatan pours into his revolutionary thoughts.

This thesis discusses the image of Satan’s virtues from a brand-new perspective ofSpatial Triad Theory.The description of Satan at the beginning of the epic isundoubtedly the most complex and full moment of its positive and negative images.It issaid that Satan is a degenerate.Satan is self-indulgent in an environment full ofgoodness and beauty like heaven,and he conspires with other angels to rebel,causinggreat losses to heaven.However,it’s right in this kind of superficial peace and lovehiding the unequal for all angels and beings except for God.And facing to the almightyGod and especially the environment,fearless Satan sets the war as a rebel.After beingbeaten to the environment of hell and fire,Satan and others maintain their bright andglorious heroic image under the burning of fire.Under the condition that theircompanions have the same goal and are humble to each other,Satan can firmlyimplement the belief of the free uprising,face a powerful enemy without fear,and takethe initiative to volunteer as a pioneer to fight for compatriots.
