t readers. Sun Yu has translated many English works, and as a young translator in China, Sun Yu’s (2012) translation of The Return of the Native can be regarded as the latest one. Sun’s first edition came out in 2006 and in the same year, it was included in Yiwen Classics and The Treasury of World’s Classics. Moreover, later in 2012, Sun’s second edition was published, which shows clearly the popularity of Sun’s translation work among target readers. In Sun’s (2012) translation, he makes great effort to be faithful to the original text mainly by employing literal translation. Although the source text contains a large number of Wessex dialects, Sun (2012) tries his best to translate them into modern words that are fit for the contemporary target readers to comprehend easily in modern society. And in the original text of Hardy (1995), he exercises distinct English culture, however, in the translation process, Sun (2012) chooses to preserve the exotic culture which makes target readers know about the foreign culture directly. Therefore, it can be concluded that in his translation, Sun (2012) does his utmost to translate the messages of the original text into modern, natural and simple words, which can be considered as the typical language feature of dialogue.

Chapter Four Analysis on Strategies of Thick Translation in Zhang Guruo’s Translation of The Return of the Native
In the previous chapter, we have an approximate understanding of Zhang Guruo’s (1991) translation of The Return of the Native and a detailed apprehension of thick translation. This chapter is the main part of this thesis, so the author spends a lot of ink on it. After comparing Zhang’s translation and Hardy’s original one, the author finds out that Zhang’s is much thicker than Hardy’s and she will elaborates it in detail in terms of thick translation.
