Labor time is the time during which workers sell their labor to capitalists in order to make a living, while free time iswhen the working class is not restricted by capitalists and able to participate in variousactivities for their all-round development. Therefore, consumable pseudo-cyclical timeis in essence spectacular time.

Pseudo-cyclical time is closely associated with consumption, an extremelysignificant part in the modern economy. And people’s choices in daily life thus aregreatly limited and are subordinated to the false natural order imposed by alienatedlabor. Meanwhile, based upon the production of commodities the time mode itselfbecomes the commodity. Therefore, attention must be paid to consumption activitiesduring the period in view of the fact that consumption guided by the ruling class is thedistinguishing feature of this time mode.

Cyclical Time in England, England

Cyclical time is the time form of human society dominated by natural economyand is associated with a static society. In Debord’s eyes, as a result of repeatability ofproduction pattern and the narrowness of living space, one finds in the direct experienceof nature that time does not flow forward linearly in such a society, and instead, it is thecycle of the same state of being.
