Owing to his interest in economic themes,the translator finally chose MaurizioBovi’s book Why and How Humans Trade,Predict,Aggregate and Innovate as thetranslation object.After careful screening and communication with tutor,the first twosections of the fourth chapter“Aggregating:Humans Are Social Animals”werefinally selected as the source text of the translation practice.

After determining the translation material,the translator learnt some translationtheories such as Skopos Theory,Translation Shifts Theory and Theory ofTranslational Action,etc.Considering the features of source text,the translatordecided Translation Shifts Theory as guidance for this project.Then the translatorread parallel texts and relevant economic literature,such as An Inquiry into the Natureand Causes of the Wealth of Nations,the Nature of Capital and Income,etc.In thisprocess,the translator sorted out the economic concepts that appeared frequently inboth parallel texts and the source text,and then consulted them through the Internet.This was conducive to the understanding of common economic principles and terms.Parallel texts also helped the translator to be familiar with the writing style,dictionhabits,and main idea of similar texts,which was crucial for subsequent translation.

In addition to the above preparation,the translator read the source bookthoroughly and focused on the selected chapter to understand the main idea of theauthor.

2.2 While-translation

When translating,the translator encounters some difficult words,the fullcomprehension of which calls for in-depth research and browsing relevant documentsTherefore,the translator uses paper and electronic dictionaries to double-check theaccuracy of these words such as Oxford Advanced Learner's English-ChineseDictionary,Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English,and The English-ChineseDictionary(second edition).The Internet search engine includes Baidu,Google,etc.

Looking up the unknown words is the first step because there are many long and difficult sentences in the source text.When translating them,the translator firstanalyzes the sentence structure,clarifies the basic meaning,and then divides thesentences before translating,so as to ensure that the Chinese translation will not belengthy.

Translation is uneasy,just like climbing a mountain,there is always room forcontinuous improvement.After translating some parts on the first day,whenreviewing the next day,the translator can always find any shortcomings.Therefore,inthis translation practice,the translator continuously reviews and modifies thepreviously translated parts,striving for smooth expression and accurate meaning.
