2.2Research Objectives
This research employs the quantitative research methods with video observation, and aims to explore the effects of nonverbal communication in English teaching in primary schools and finds out some problems existing in teachers’ nonverbal communication in English classes. Besides, the research aims to solve the three research questions by using the theories of nonverbal communication, psycholinguistics and the affective filter hypothesis. And then this research puts forward relevant implications for the effective applications of nonverbal communication in English teaching in primary schools.
In order to better study nonverbal communication of English teachers in primary schools, this research selects the videos of the Ninth Demonstration for Primary School English Teachers, 31 experienced teachers from all over the country attended the meeting. Besides, they can represent the highest level of English teaching in China. Therefore, the study of these teachers is more representative, and it can better reflect the applications of nonverbal communication and development trends of primary school English teachers in China. These 31 teachers are Xie Tian, Zhang Qian, Zhang Qianyi, Zhao Xinyun, Zhong Xiuqing, Zhou Xiaoman, Zhou Yawen, Zhu Yan, Zhu Youjie, Liang Liyan, Liao Xian, Liu Huadong, Ma Jing, Pan Ning, Pang Wenji, Qi Xinghong, Sang Wenjing, Song Na, Ding Jieqiong, Ding Ruifang, Gong Chengju, Chen Yuanyuan, Gui lingjun, Huang Xuehui, Ju Jiaku, Kan Xiujuan, Kong Lingfei, Ku Fengling, Li Yang, Song Yu and Sun Jing.
