摘要:本文是一篇小学英语教学论文,作为小学英语教学中不可缺少的一部分,非语言交际对英语教学有着重要的影响。
Secondly, teachers should have meaningful smiles which can transmit information on their faces rather than the polite smiles. In this way, students will feel their teachers’ kindness through the meaningful smiles rather than the habitual smiles, and teachers are also more likely to be loved by the students. It is easier to stimulate their students’ enthusiasm and confidence in learning English if students love their English teachers. Teachers should also adjust their facial expressions according to the teaching contents and interact with their students, because rich facial expressions are more conducive to promoting their emotional communication with their students.
Thirdly, different hand, finger and arm movements also express different meanings in English teaching. Teachers should apply positive movements and avoid negative movements, such as pointing at the students at random with their fingers. Teachers should stretch out their arms and make an inviting gesture with their palms up when asking their students to answer questions, and students will feel that they are valued by their teachers. Teachers’ finger movements should not be too much, otherwise students’ attention can be easily distracted.

Conclusion
As an indispensable part of English teaching in primary schools, nonverbal communication can influence English teaching. With the purpose of investigating the effects of nonverbal communication on English teaching, this research adopts video observation as the main research methodology. After collecting and analyzing the data, the three research questions can be answered and the major findings are presented one by one as follows.
The first research question is how English teachers teach English effectively by applying nonverbal communication. Based on the observed data, this study finds out that teachers’ applications of nonverbal communication assist their teaching all the time in the teaching processes. Teachers will utilize gestures, facial expressions or other physical movements to demonstrate to students when teaching more abstract words or giving more difficult English instructions so that their students can clearly understand what they are saying.
