Engels once said, “We should not be over enjoyed our victory on the nature. For each such  victory,  the  nature  will  take  revenge  on  us”[48]. At  present,  while  experiencing the convenience brought by the transformation of nature, men are also suffering the consequences  brought  by  ecological  imbalance.  So  far,  all  kinds  of  unfair  and unequal relations, such as sex discrimination, ecological destruction, race, and class exploitation  still  exist  and  have  a  profound  impact  on  the  development  of  human society. Yu Mouchang, an ecological philosopher, points out, “From the point of view of  man  and  nature,  the  20th  century  has  left  mankind  two  great  legacies:  cultural triumph and natural failure”[49]. The frequent occurrence of natural disasters is a cruel counterattack  to  human  beings.  The  rapid  economic  growth  and  the  destruction  of natural  environment  happen  simultaneously,  and  the  development  of  urbanization leads  to  the  degradation  of  vegetation  and  the  depletion  of  resources.  At  the  same time,  the  widening  gap  between  the  rich  and  the poor  also  led  to  the  emergence  of many  social  conflicts,  leading  to  estrangement  between  people.  The  expansion  of material  desire  makes  men  ignore  their  spiritual  world  in  pursuit  of  material enjoyment. In this way, people’s spiritual world becomes more and more empty. The imbalance  of  natural  ecology,  social  ecology  and  spiritual  ecology  also  exists  in Dreiser’s novel Jennie Gerhardt.

This  paper  interprets  Jennie  Gerhardt  from  the  perspective  of  ecofeminism.  It analyzes  the  intimate  relationship  between  nature  and  the  protagonist  Jennie,  the ecological  imbalance  under  the  influence  of  anthropocentrism,  and  the influence  of androcentrism  on  Jennie’s  life.  Jennie’s  fate  is  closely  related  to  nature  and  the environment she lives. Interpreting text from the perspective of ecofeminism, it can be  found  that  both  Jennie  and  nature  suffer  from  the  oppression  of  patriarchy.
