Chapter 4 Ayaana’s and Lai Jin’s Geospatial Mobility andIdentity Construction
4.1 Modern Transportation and Geospatial Mobility
The development of modern transportation provides the necessary materialconditions for enhancing the mobility of space. With trains, cars, planes, and ships, the novel’s characters can leave their hometowns to study and seek employment, move from one place to another, and even travel across continents. In The DragonflySea,mobility is no longer a symbol of men,and the novel also focuses on women’sexperience of mobility. From the perspective of modern transportation, this sectionanalyses the connection between geographic spaces and the mobility of characters inthe novel.
4.1.1 Modern Transportation and Ayaana
Ayaana grows up on Pate Island. After being selected as a Chinese descendant,Ayaana is given an opportunity to travel by ship to study in China. The turning pointof Ayaana’s romantic relationship and fate occurs on the ship MV Guolong.AlthoughAyaana grows up on a small island until she is eighteen, the education she receives from Muhidin and the simple folklore of the island allow Ayaana to grow into anindependent and open-minded woman. She learns Chinese on board, makes friendsand gains a sincere love that attracts each other. The experience of mobility on theocean greatly enriches Ayaana’s characterization as a woman. She dares to love andhate, but also does not let her love stop her from pursuing her studies. After coming toChina,Ayaana embarks on another mobility journey in China.
Chapter 5 Conclusion
The Dragonfly Sea focuses on the underdeveloped region of Kenya. It alsoreflects on this place where to go in the era of globalization. In this novel, even themost remote and isolated regions are not isolated from the historical torrent, butinteract with the outside world through the mobility of population, capital andinformation. The Dragonfly Sea is an oceanic novel that transcends the sea, with therhetorically rich language serving as a portal into the realm of fantasy. The novelabandons linear logic and enters a realm where virtual reality, psychological space, and future fantasy space collide.
The human and natural geographic spaces intercepted in this thesis are related tonatural geographic features such as topography, landforms and climate.Geographicspaces in literature, however, are more historically and culturally bound, closelyconnected to human social interactions, and exhibit a strong humanity.H本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
