摘要:国内利率词汇在英语教科书的研究可以追溯到20世纪90年代。外国词汇评价理论的指导下,国内学者已经进行了许多实证研究。

To sum up, “materials,,,"teaching materials”,"textbook" and “coursebook” areinterchangeable in the present study, referring to a commercially published book or seriesof books produced to meet the requirements of a given EFL program and used by teachersor learners to facilitate the learning of a language such as New College English (2008)published by Shanghai Foreign Education Press, New Horizon College English (2010)published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, and Century CollegeEnglish (2005) published by Fu Dan University Press. Although a current textbook is apackage of materials consisting of a student's book and other materials ancillary to it, inthe present study it mainly refers to the student's book.


Chapter Two Methodology


This chapter is concerned with the research design of the present study. It begins withthe introduction of the research questions to be addressed, followed by a description of thedata sources and the tools used for data collection and processing in the study. It then givesan account of how the investigation is conducted.


2.1 Research questions
The present study makes an investigation of the vocabulary in reading Text As inthree current College English textbooks, namely, New College English Integrated Course(the second edition), New Horizon College English Reading and Writing (the secondedition), and 21^^ Century College English Reading and Writing (the modified edition).Three research questions are addressed in terms of the selection and presentation of thelexical content in textbooks. The research questions are:(1) How is the Text As,coverage of Curriculum words (the words required in CollegeEnglish Curriculum Requirements (2004) issued by the Ministry of Education)?(2) As far as the covered Curriculum words are concerned, do Text As provide typicalcollocations of these words?(3) Are the new word densities of Text As appropriate?


2.2 Data sources
The data used for the analysis in the present study are drawn from one word list andtwo corpora, namely College English Curriculum Word List,College English TextbookCorpus and British National Corpus.


2.2.1 College English Curriculum Word List (CECWL)
College English Curriculum Word List is created under the guidance of CollegeEnglish Curriculum Requirements (2004). 6674 English words are included in the List. Thedetermination of word entries is based on quantitative and qualitative analyses. "Thequantitative analysis refers to the data from the corpus of the Collins Bank of English. Andthe qualitative analysis is mainly based on the collection of some experts' suggestions.”(Zhao 2006: 97) The 6674 words are grouped into three levels, i.e. words of BasicRequirement, words of Intermediate Requirement and words of Higher Requirement.
