The findings obtained from the present study also have some implications for CollegeEnglish textbook compilation. The results of the study show that the reading texts examinedcontain a small number of typical collocations of delexical make. In light of the pedagogicvalue of typical collocations, it is suggested that textbooks writers incorporate more typicalcollocations of these high frequency words into the coursebooks. Although suchhigh-frequency words as make fall into the starting vocabulary which is the focus of middleschool English, various empirical studies reveal that college students have much difficultywith the typical collocations of these “easy verbs". Therefore, College English textbookwriters should attach equal importance to these high frequency words and incorporate thetypical collocations of these words into the coursebook. “The major ELT publishing firmshave the resources to do this, and it would be commercially and pedagogically responsibleto do so.” (Koprowski 2005:331)
